The 2026 Tanztriennale posed the provocative question: “Are platforms dead?” Talk & Connect #3 picks up exactly where this left off and takes it a step further: What would replace the platforms? And what structures do curators really need?

Curators are indispensable players in the international dance ecosystem. Artists and curators need one another to develop sustainable networks and innovative formats. But: How can we shape more equitable and reciprocal models of curatorship in international dance exchange. What is missing for them in markets, platforms and festivals? And what do curatorial models look like that are based on reciprocity and shared values – rather than short-term project logic?

Rising costs, visa barriers, climate pressures and shifting funding landscapes are fundamentally altering what ‘international work’ can mean. At the same time, there is a growing desire for models based on genuine reciprocity, long-term solidarity and shared infrastructure.

Building on the insights from previous Talk & Connect editions, we ask: How can we rethink curatorial processes – beyond established networks and aesthetics of the Global North? Which formats and infrastructures enable equal encounters between artists, presenters and curators?

How can we make curation fairer, more sustainable and more collaborative? What alternative models are artists and institutions already developing?
